The Club was formed in 1980 by a few local computer enthusiasts who originally used to take turns to meet in each others houses. Due to an expanding membership in a short time this became a problem and brought about the formation of the club, with its own premises.

Two factors bind us together. We all have an interest in the use of personal computers, albeit for varying reasons and we feel we have plenty to learn to get the best from our PC's.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we refuse no-one membership, and try to produce a varied programme for members. The purchase by the club of a projector and screen, with the help of a grant from Brentwood Borough Council, has encouraged members to give a demonstration on a subject dear to their hearts, not necessarily about computers but using a computer program. Although this is not a prerequisite of joining.

The club tries to cater for a broad range of interests. However, the detailed programme of the club is heavily influenced by the wishes of the members.

Club evenings consist of a presentation by a member or guest, a hands on computer evening when the clubs and members computers are used by small groups of members to try out different programs, or a forum evening when members problems are talked over and suggestions made for clearing them.

Examples of subjects covered have been:

Word Processing, General Computer Housekeeping, Family History

Photographic Manipulation & Digital Cameras, Internet Use

Flight Sims, Filing, Desktop Publishing, Video Editing, Spreadsheets

and PowerPoint .

The Club is connected to the Internet and is able to demonstrate searching the web for information, use of e-mails and construction of personal web sites.

If you would like to come along to the club to see what it is all about you will be made welcome, from the basic beginner to the old stager, we welcome you all.
